What Are The Signs I Need A New Bookkeeper?

There are several signs that it may be time to review your bookkeeping arrangements. One of the most obvious is consistently outdated financial records. If your bank accounts have not been reconciled for weeks or months, you may not have an accurate picture of your business finances.

Another warning sign is repeated errors, unexplained transactions or difficulty obtaining basic financial information when you need it. Communication is also important. If your bookkeeper is difficult to contact, regularly misses deadlines or does not explain issues clearly, the relationship may no longer be working effectively. Businesses can also outgrow their existing bookkeeping arrangements.

A bookkeeper who was suitable when the business had a small number of transactions may not have the capacity or experience required as the business expands, hires employees or increases its transaction volume. Other signs include invoices not being followed up, bills being missed, payroll issues, poor organisation of receipts or an accounting file that has become increasingly difficult to understand.

Before changing bookkeepers, it is worth reviewing what is actually going wrong and documenting outstanding tasks. You should also ensure you understand your software access and retain appropriate records.

If you are considering a new bookkeeper in Melbourne, Young Guns Bookkeeping can assist businesses that need ongoing bookkeeping, Xero support, reconciliation or catch-up bookkeeping. A good bookkeeping relationship should provide reliable records, clear communication and confidence that your financial administration is being looked after.
